Growing up in the sixties exposed me to some great sporting events.  I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida.  We did not have major league sports there then, so we had to watch games on TV.  Still we rarely missed a game.  Everybody had a favorite player.  We were that player when we played on the sandlot.  I was Mickey Mantle,  It seems that we were all Yankees fans back then.  I never grew out of it.

My interest in sports was cultivated by my dad’s interest in them.  The original sports junkie, he taught me everything I know about it.  He was the best shortstop I’ve ever seen.  I learned how to watch a game from him.

I grew up hearing about the old ball players who played before I came along.  The old Yankees teams that dominated the 40’s and 50’s, Ted Williams and guys like that.  These stories had a profound effect on me; I would listen to them all day if I could.

Having played baseball when I was young and football into my college years, I learned things about the sports that the casual fan does not know.  I think that those of us who played have a responsibility to help those who did not to understand what they are seeing.  I take this responsibility seriously and that’s why I write in the editorial style that I do.

I write primarily about baseball.  I mean is there anything more perfect than a left turn every ninety feet?  There is always something going on in baseball to write about.  You’ll find coverage of other sports as well, though.  The world of sports is always full of stuff that just has to be addressed.

Thanks for visiting and come back soon!
